Weekly Happenings: This past week was a bittersweet one. At the beginning, it was a normal-ish week of school, work, and the like. On Thursday, I flew to California to be with family and attend my dad’s funeral. I got back yesterday. Paul did an awesome job holding down the fort.
The Weekly Weather: We got a lot of rain last week! Joseph kept saying he wished it would stop so he could play outside. Sorry, kiddo. Fall in South Texas usually means rain.
What Paul’s Been Up To: As I mentioned before, he held down the fort while I was gone. He did an awesome job! He also managed to score a Super Nintendo Classic (a mini Super Nintendo with a ton of the classic games loaded onto it) as a surprise for Joseph.
What Sarah’s Been Up To: I soaked up as much family time as possible. My dad’s funeral was on Friday. It was a really wonderful service. It was so good to see everyone I did (family, old friends) even though it was under sadder circumstances.
What Joseph’s Been Up To: Mainly just doing his thing. He really enjoyed getting to do Google Hangouts with me while I was gone. He also enjoyed playing the SNES Classic. It served as a good distraction, I think.
What Abigail’s Been Up To: She also enjoyed the Google Hangouts (even though she looked confused as to exactly where I was since my face was in Paul’s phone) and has been jetting around the house in her walker. I also moved her into 12-18 month (or just 18 month if it’s a single-size option) clothing.

Weekly Happenings: This past week has been a heart-heavy one. On Wednesday (September 20), my sweet daddy passed away. We knew it would be soon, since about a week prior it had been decided that he would no longer be able to continue doing dialysis. It still was a bit of a shock to my system, though. It was a tender moment telling Joseph. We’d been preparing him for the event as much as we could. He was still understandably sad, but we stressed the fact that we would see Grandpa again, and that families can be together forever. That seemed to help him process it a bit better (way better than I anticipated, actually). The rest of the week was spent letting people know, making plans for the funeral, and scheduling flights. We decided that Paul will take the time off to stay with home with Joseph and Abigail while I fly out to California for a few days. I’m so grateful for my knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and eternal families!
The Weekly Weather: It’s been mostly warm, but the last few days have been slightly cooler. We did have one thunderstorm that came through and seemed to clear out a bit of the oppressive humidity, which was nice.
What Paul’s Been Up To: Mainly just work, school, and work around the house. Not too much out of the ordinary, really. He also did all of the hard work researching and setting up my flights to and from California. I’m so grateful for him!
What Sarah’s Been Up To: Typical home/momma stuff for me. I did attend the General Relief Society Broadcast last night. It’s so uplifting hearing leaders of our church speaking to all of the women. It was also nice to see friends I haven’t seen for a while.
What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s been busy with school. His teacher let me know that she’s going to start sending him to meet with the GT (gifted and talented) teacher to do enrichment activities. Hopefully this will keep him active and engaged so that he won’t get bored when they happen to be doing stuff in class that he already has knowledge about (my experience as a teacher taught me that bored kids sometimes end up making mischief because of that boredom, so I totally understand her motive, haha).
What Abigail’s Been Up To: She officially turned nine months old on Friday. She now weighs 19 pounds, 12 ounces and is 28 inches long. She’s sitting up on her own even better, and is continuing to work on pushing out those top two teeth. She’s rolling like a fiend, but still is showing absolutely no interest in crawling, haha. Oh, and she figured out how to make her walker go forward (and can also execute a pretty good 3-point turn, haha). Life is beginning to get…interesting.
This Week in Pictures:
It’s blurry (she was trying to grab my phone, haha), but you can sort of see her top two teeth coming in.I found this awesome fuzzy flower while on a morning walk I was taking with friends. I expected it to be like a dandelion (the “fuzz” being seeds designed to be spread by wind or wishful children), but it wasn’t. When you touched it, the “fuzz” wasn’t fuzzy and it stayed attached…because it was actually the flower petals. It was the palest pink and each needle-like petal was tipped with an iridescent white dot, so the entire thing looked shiny in the morning sunlight.My $5.00 find: a soft, fluffy unicorn that plays music. She loves it!We also ordered Abigail’s Halloween costume (we already have Joseph’s…he’s going to be Mario from Super Mario Brothers and Paul found a costume for him online). I’m sort of excited about Abigail’s. 🙂I love capturing moments like this! He was reading a book to her. 🙂This is still hard to wrap my head around, haha.Now that she can navigate this thing better…it’s on, haha.
Weekly Happenings: Not too much happened this past week, actually. We just kind of did our thing. Towards the end of the week, we went out for dinner one night and then had friends over the next night to celebrate Paul’s birthday (which is today). I made him cheesecake as normal. 🙂 Today I made him one of his favorite breakfasts (a fried egg sandwich) and we gave him his present (a belt sander to add to his tool collection). Now we have three birthdays down and just one more to go for the year (Abigail’s in December).
The Weekly Weather: It’s been a mix of hot and slightly cooler. 😉 That’s pretty typical for this time of year, though.
What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s started back to school, so the homework routine is back on. He also keeps plenty busy at work and maintaining at-home stuff (yesterday he mowed and edged both yards before it got too hot).
What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not much on my part…mainly keeping the littles happy.
What Joseph’s Been Up To: He won a drawing through his dentist’s office (all the kids that are cavity-free get put into a drawing for gift cards to a local arcade/bowling/games place) and is looking forward to using his prize. His teacher also told me that his reading is quite impressive. His school was having students read parts of the Constitution (I believe they’re going to piece it all together and make some sort of audio/video presentation since Constitution Day is…today, actually) and his teacher told them that she had a few students that could probably handle reading parts of it. Joseph was one of them, and his teacher told me that he read his part in one take, without any mistakes. That’s pretty impressive.
What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s been practicing sitting up on her own some more and is starting to reach for things she wants (mainly toys and people). 🙂 There was one time she got a hold of something that she wasn’t supposed to (the section of pool noodle that I had wedged on the edge of the changing table to prevent possible bonked noggins). I took it away and she let me know, in no uncertain terms, that she was irritated with that outcome. It’s kind of entertaining to see her personality shining through more and more.

He’s getting pretty fast.Playing with another of Joseph’s old toys: a little house made by Leap Frog that has a ton of fun things on it to play with.She figured out rather quickly that the crow’s nest and flag come off.Now the first thing she does when she plays with it is to take those both off and suck/chew on them, haha.Reaching for the pool noodle…I eventually just took it off.Paul’s new belt sander.One of our good friends also got Paul a present: this card game that’s based on a series of books that he really likes.
