Weekly Happenings: Most of this week was pretty typical. Today was fun, though. Paul and I kind of divided and conquered. He took Joseph to see a movie (Detective Pikachu) and I took Abigail to the zoo. Much fun was had by all. 🙂
The Weekly Weather: The sun has shown its face a few times, but we’ve been mostly overcast and rainy. We even had a cold front move in yesterday and today, dropping the temps into the 60s and low 70s, which is very abnormal for this time of year.
What Paul’s Been Up To: He had a training at work which kept him busy. Other than that, he’s continuing to work hard around the house and in the yards, as well as making time for the family. I sure appreciate him!
What Sarah’s Been Up To: My piano students keep me busy, as well as the typical work that happens in the house and with the kids. I did go out for a girls’ night with friends which was a nice break.
What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s excited that there isn’t much school left before summer break. He had a great time with Paul at the movies. It was a movie that he’s been looking forward to for a long time, so he was excited to get to go today.
What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s been keeping all of us on our toes, that’s for sure. Her new thing this week is pretending to sleep, complete with snores. She has also taken to telling every object in the house goodnight as we get her ready for bed. I read her “Goodnight Moon” and she seemed to really enjoy it, considering it matched up with her new favorite bedtime routine pretty well.
This Week in Pictures:
A good friend of mine found this really cute dress at a thrift store and couldn’t help but buy it for Abigail. It’s sleeveless, but I just popped her little black shirt under it and it was perfect.I couldn’t resist trying to coordinate with her a bit for church last Sunday. She asked for colors, so I was looking for the crayons. Then she pulled this out and said, “Colors!” That works, too.I got her a battery-operated toothbrush. She likes it a lot better than a manual brush. Yay!Salad is much easier to consume in large amounts if one completely abandons one’s fork. It’s probably a bit silly, but I was super-excited to find these new baskets for our counter. They don’t take up any more room than my previous basket did, but they have the ability to hold quite a bit more. I’m looking forward to filling these up with yummy summer fruits! One of my succulents went south rather quickly (I think it got root rot which can happen if it accidentally retains too much water), so I decided to try out a slightly different type of succulent. It’s one that normally is grown outdoors, but my friends who are a bit more knowledgeable in the subject said that it will probably do fine inside as long as it gets enough sunlight. This is the face of a girl who absolutely loves avocado. I can totally relate!Well, that’s one way to make sure to have quick toy access.Joseph made this in art class for Mother’s Day (it has a sweet poem on the back). He is very proud of it (and so am I), so I made sure to hang it up nice and high (so that little hands don’t damage it).She was rubbing his head and saying, “Soft!” I’m not sure if she was commenting on the softness of his hair or if she was echoing the many times I’ve told her to have a soft touch with her brother.Abigail was lying on the floor, asking if she could come up on the couch. I told her she could (she’s totally capable of climbing up on her own). She then did this with her feet. This process was repeated several times. Silly girl!Walking home after dropping Joseph off for school yesterday (it was 58 degrees!). She insisted on wearing her hat backwards. This one definitely marches to the beat of her own drummer. We stumbled upon this toucan while at the zoo today. It was so pretty, I couldn’t resist snapping its picture.Abigail was super excited to see the cheetah out. Normally it’s hiding in the shade of the trees way in the back of the enclosure. She sat down, turned around, and said, “Cheese!” 😀Checking out the lions and the cheeky buzzards. She specifically asked to see monkeys, so we went off to go find them (they’re kind of off to one side of the zoo which is not in the normal loop that we do). She loved these itty-bitty fuzzy black ones. She was fascinated watching the okapi use its long tongue to get the leaves that were just out of its reach. This is seriously my favorite zoo animal.Checking out one of several water falls that are scattered around the zoo.The boys before the movie.Joseph was pretty excited to see these props. We went out to eat at Burger King. They have this huge Connect Four game set up for people to play. The kids really liked it.Every princess needs a crown, right? 😉
Weekly Happenings: The week started off a little rough, because Joseph ended up getting sick (and Abigail was still not feeling 100% quite yet). Luckily, Joseph just had a bad cold, so he was feeling better after a day or so. I had taken him in to be checked out (because of Abigail’s strep diagnosis last week) and the strep test came back negative, but they noticed his ear had a lot of wax that needed to be flushed out. It was a rather complicated process, so I’m grateful the doctor was able to do it so that I didn’t have to do it at home. After that, our week started looking up…until Abigail started sniffling and coughing a couple days ago. *sigh* I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’s just allergies (or at most just a little cold).
The Weekly Weather: It’s been rather overcast and muggy. We’ve also had a couple of substantial rain storms come through. Today is clear and sunny, which is a nice break.
What Paul’s Been Up To: At my request, he rearranged Joseph’s furniture slightly so that Joseph’s bed is no longer up against a wall. It will be so much easier to make his bed (which means it’ll be easier for him to do on his own, haha). We also took a trip to IKEA this morning and picked up a shelving system so that he has more storage for the special things in his room. Paul is assembling it as I type. I’m so grateful for my handy husband!
What Sarah’s Been Up To: I’ve been mostly snuggling sickies (and hoping they didn’t get each other sick, since they had completely different illnesses). I also revamped the kid bathroom. It was decorated in an Angry Birds theme, which worked for Joseph when he was younger, but neither of the kids like the game now (and the stuff was starting to look rather worn after almost seven years), so I decided to go with something that wasn’t branded and could last for a good long while. It’s a wave theme, which I really like (and the kids do, too. Abigail kept saying, “Wow! Water!”).
What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s been able to enjoy some fun activities at school (since it’s the last full month before school is out for the summer, the first grade teachers have come up with a small but fun activity for the kids to do each day of May).
What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s been quite fun now that she’s starting to feel better. Her personality is just growing leaps and bounds. There was one morning I went in her room to get her up for the day and was met with her rolling over, looking at me with a rather addled expression, and then rolling back over, saying, “Oh…my…goodness.” That’s how I feel in the mornings too, chickadee. The other funny thing that she said this week was when I offered her a snack. I said, “Let’s give you…” and paused as I was thinking of just what I should give her. She filled the space in with “Chips?!” I laughed and asked her if she wanted chips and she said, “Sure! I have chips. Thank you, Momma!” I felt like I’d been slightly played, but went with it since the things she calls chips are actually rice crackers that are flavored with soy sauce and toasted sesame seeds. She also has decided that when she goes to bed, her baby doll needs to be tucked in right next to her. Then she can say, “Nigh-night, dolly!” while patting her doll lovingly.
This Week in Pictures:
I updated my quote board for May. I loved this part of a quote by Minot J. Savage. The rest of the quote (which I simply lacked the letters and space for) says, “Their courage nerves a thousand living men.”It was nice to get out the patriotic decorations again. With Memorial Day this month, Flag Day next month, Fourth of July the month after that, and then nothing of note in August, these will probably stay out until I go to pull the fall stuff out in September. These two sure light up my life!Oh! This was hilarious. She REALLY wanted to touch the decorations on the piano. I was sitting on the couch, so I could see her with my peripheral vision. She’d really reach, but then if I looked over, she’d quickly switch over to playing the piano (which she knows she’s allowed to do). Sneaky little miss!Okay, let me just say, I did NOT take this picture! My neighbor did. She was taking a walk one street over from ours and came across this fellow in one of the driveways. It’s a legit coral snake. Ick! Luckily she was able to notify the guy who lived at the house and he was able to track it down and dispatch it with a shovel. I’m all for coexisting with these critters…as long as they aren’t able to do serious damage to my babies! She was having the big Bucc-ee give the little one kisses (and vice-versa). After this she put them to bed (and also said “Nigh-night” to everything in her room…I may need to dig out Goodnight Moon to read to her). The updated kid bathroom.Stage one of getting Joseph’s room more organized. The shelving unit will go on the wall under where his name is painted. Here’s the rest of the organization efforts. I love the bins that hide everything! It’s looking like a bigger kid room now!
Weekly Happenings: We enjoyed a nice Easter Sunday (and the kids enjoyed fun things in their baskets) at the beginning of the week. We had ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade strawberry pie for dessert. Mid-week was rather ordinary, and then the end of the week was fun for Joseph since he had Fiesta fun at school. Fiesta is a week-long celebration in San Antonio. The big part of it is The Battle of the Flowers parade which commemorates the Battle of the Alamo. The rest of Fiesta just kind of spiraled out from there over time. I kind of liken it to Mardi Gras, haha.
The Weekly Weather: We had one big thunderstorm come through about mid-week, but other than that, it’s been gorgeous spring weather. 🙂
What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s been pressure-washing everything, haha. Well, not really. After he did our driveway and walkway, he moved onto the fences. Now he’s re-staining them so they’ll be nice and protected from future inclement weather. He also bought a new light fixture for our dining room and installed it. I’m so grateful he knows how to do all this stuff!
What Sarah’s Been Up To: I’ve been relatively busy keeping the house {relatively} neat, the kids happy, my plants alive, and my piano students well-engaged.
What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s sensing the end of school swiftly approaching (they have a little more than a month left) and is looking forward to play dates and more free time. He had a fun Fiesta party at school where they enjoyed food and extra play time outside.
What Abigail’s Been Up To: She had been fighting allergies but then, on Wednesday night she popped a random fever. Normally I wait this type of thing out for a bit (it’s usually just a 24-hour bug), but my Mom-radar wouldn’t stop going off, so I took her into the doctor on Thursday. It turns out that she had strep and an ear infection! She’s a couple days into her antibiotics and is already feeling a lot better. She also likes that she gets a cookie after taking her medicine. 🙂
This Week in Pictures:
Fun Easter baskets.I love seeing their reactions when they first see fun things like this.Checking out their fun stuff.Joseph was excited about us getting him a ukulele.Abigail liked shaking her eggs. She also really liked this book. The pages slide open to show a hiding animal. Our yummy dessert. I used a store-bought crust and then made the filling.I then topped each slice with homemade whipped cream. Yum!Already trying to figure out chords. This one commandeered all the empty eggs and carried them around for a couple of days.Just readin’.Coloring in one of her color-with-water books that we got her for Easter. I really love these books. They come with a “paintbrush” that you fill with water and then once they dry, you can use them again.I told her it was time for a diaper change and she headed for the figurative hills. Yes, I do see the irony of her trying to hide from a diaper change…in a diaper box.She crashed on the way home from the doctor’s. Thank goodness for drive-through pharmacies! Our new dining room light fixture.I think it works perfectly with our farmhouse table. 🙂One more shot of the new look in our dining room. I love the coziness the new light gives the room. This time when I made rice crispy treats, I decided to top them with mini semi-sweet chocolate chips. When Joseph saw, he told me that he would volunteer to be official taste-tester, haha.My succulents are super-happy about the warmer weather. My shamrocks have settled into their new home rather nicely. My roses are happy that it’s warmer (ant that they are outside), too! I’m so glad it survived the transplant from pot in the house (Paul had gotten these for me for Valentine’s Day) to bigger pot outside.Sights like this make me happy. 🙂Someone has discovered the “horsey”. 😂
