Long Summer Days

Weekly Happenings: We’ve reached the point of summer vacation where Joseph is asking more frequently just how much longer until school starts. I can’t say that I blame him, though. It’s been so hot that we haven’t done much. There were a few play dates and a trip to the zoo, but other than that, not much out of the ordinary.

The Weekly Weather: This previous week was another scorcher. We had temps in the triple digits with the humidity making it feel even warmer. Poor Joseph had a hard time understanding that it was hot enough that it could actually make him sick if he played outside for too long. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s still on break from school (and will be until September). Work, yard work, and spending quality dad/son time with Joseph (not to mention time with the whole family) still kept him pretty busy.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not too much on my end. The kids kept me pretty busy most of the time. I love it, though. 🙂

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He had fun playing at the park, going to the zoo (both morning trips to make sure it wasn’t too hot yet) and having a friend over to play.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: Cuteness overload, as usual. She has been figuring out the walker (she’s still pretty much stuck in reverse, though) and has also been trying to figure out how to throw things that she’s holding (still working on the whole “letting go” aspect). She likes to shriek and if she sees something she really wants, she gets so excited that she literally start shaking. It’s pretty funny.

This Week in Pictures:

At the zoo, roaring like a lion…
Giving me a “creepy bug face”.
Hanging out on the hippos.
I walked out one morning to find this guy (or girl…who knows) just chilling on our front walk. I’ve heard cicadas in our trees plenty of times, but I’ve never seen one this close up.
I love how she smiles with her whole face!

It’s Hot, Hot, HOT!

Weekly Happenings: This past week didn’t contain too much out of the ordinary. I think we’re in summer survival mode, haha. We pretty much just puttered along. Yesterday, we all happened to be up rather early, so we scooted over to the zoo. Going early payed off. We were able to get there before it got too hot or too crowded.

The Weekly Weather: As the title eludes to, it’s been rather hot. I think we were close to or in the triple digits for most of the week. When it gets that hot during the day, the nights are warm, too. The other night, it was still 95 degrees at 9:30.

What Paul’s Been Up To: He finished up his semester for school. He’s also kept busy as usual with work, yard work, etc. He did go to see a movie with some friends, which I’m sure was a nice break.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not too much out of the ordinary for me, either.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He had another fun summer vacation week full of playing with toys, playing video games, and even a dip in the pool. He is getting excited about school starting at the end of next month, though. He keeps on telling me that it’s almost August and he can’t wait for the end of August for Meet the Teacher (sort of like a Back to School Night that happens before school starts).

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She hit her 7 month mark yesterday. It’s crazy how quickly time flies! She’s been enjoying hanging out in her bouncer and walker. She also likes to lay in the portable crib and play with toys while rolling around. Oh, and both her center bottom teeth are all the way broken through. It makes for a pretty cute smile. 🙂

This Week in Pictures:

I was trying to get a picture of her teeth. She was more interested in trying to get my phone. 🙂
At the playground that’s at the nearby outdoor mall. He’s really into taking silly pictures right now.
Little Miss Seven Months Old!
I came back downstairs from taking my shower to find this. Whoops!

Up To Our Eyeballs in Teeth

Weekly Happenings: I’ve decided the week after a “short” week (Paul had two days off the week before this last one because of the holiday) is the longest week, ever, haha. It’s probably due to the fact that we didn’t do very much, but it seemed like the weekend would never get to us! I tried to set up a few play dates for Joseph to fill up our days. Other than that, we pretty much just plugged along.

The Weekly Weather: Warm, humid, and dry with a few rainstorms mixed in. When we were getting ready to go out to dinner last night, we could tell a storm was rolling in. It hit right after we got into the restaurant and was strong enough that the power went out, briefly, several times. It ended up dumping quite a bit of water on us (the other storms were very light…just smatterings of rain).

What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s been kept quite busy with work and school (he’s approaching the final week of his semester, so that always entails extra work).

What Sarah’s Been Up To: I’ve mainly just plugged along…keeping the small fry of the household happy.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: The big thing that happened for him this past week was that he lost another tooth! It was really, really loose (not to mention that the adult tooth was already growing in behind it). I was watching him wiggle it and told him I wouldn’t be surprised if he were able to just pull it out at that point. He surprised me (he’s shown great trepidation about tooth-pulling) by reaching in to attempt it. He pulled, just a bit, and his tooth came right out! He was excited to get to put it in a container for the tooth fairy to come and get. She left him two quarters, which he was excited about as well.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: The big thing that happened this past week was that another tooth broke through! She now has both her center bottom teeth growing in. She also spent some time perfecting her bouncing in the bouncer and learning to navigate the walker (so far she’s mostly gone backwards, but yesterday she was able to go forwards a bit before getting herself stuck).

This Week in Pictures:

I love his fun, easy-going personality!
I think Abigail might be a little confused by the silly faces…
Joseph and his friend were pretending to be astronauts. 🙂
My old soap dispenser was building up rust since the jar lid was metal, so I decided to make a new one. With this one, the container is a plastic Mason jar mug that came with a straw lid (on clearance for $1 at our local Wal-Mart). I bought a cheap soap dispenser (I think it was $2), dumped the soap in, and traded out the straw for the pump. The hole was a little too small, so I used my scissors to make it bigger (I shoved them, while closed, into the hole and just twisted them around; slowly shaving off bits of plastic until the hole was big enough).
