Trick-or-Treat Fun and a Big Oops

Weekly Happenings: This past week contained Halloween which was full of trick-or-treat fun. Other than that, there wasn’t much else we did out of the ordinary (I’ll get to the “big oops” in a bit). It’s crazy to think we’re already at this point of the year.

The Weekly Weather: We had an actual cold front come through that really dropped the temperatures. One night we actually got down to official freezing temperatures. Halloween was actually pretty cold which was great!

What Paul’s Been Up To: Nothing too much to note for him.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Here’s the “big oops”: I was prepping dinner on Halloween and while I was slicing apples, I lost grip on the apple and sliced my finger pretty bad. We tried to get the bleeding to stop for a while but were unsuccessful (well, it would stop for a bit and then start up again). After I got Abigail in bed, I hopped over to urgent care. They looked at it and decided it needed a few stitches. I also ended up getting a tetanus shot since I couldn’t remember when I got my last one and I also got a round of antibiotics to complete just in case there was anything there that would cause infection. Weeee, fun.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He was excited that he got to wear his costume to school twice this past little bit (once for superhero day and then again on Halloween). He also had a great time trick-or-treating with friends. I let him stay with his friends (under my friend’s watchful eye) when Abigail was done with walking but it was clear he wasn’t.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She really enjoyed getting to actually trick-or-treat this year. Everyone thought her little “Trick-o-tree” and “Thank-yoooou” was really cute. She did try to give people candy out of her bucket in exchange for what they were trying to give her (maybe she thought she was supposed to trade?), which was funny. She also encountered an older teenager who was dressed as Minnie Mouse who was handing out candy. She was super excited to see Minnie and waved goodbye to her (while repeatedly saying, “Bye-bye, Minnie!” until we turned a corner.

This Week in Pictures:

The dinosaurs were attacking the town.
She wanted to take a picture. 🙂
On the night I was anticipating really cold temps, I pulled out Abigail’s really warm pajamas (since she still tends to kick off her covers). I asked her to smile and say “cheese” but she decided to roar like a dinosaur instead. Oh well.
Oh, how time flies!
I was excited that I got to actually wear a hoodie on Halloween (instead of sweating), haha.
Getting ready to go trick-or-treating. Paul was staying home to hand out candy and scare the pre-teens and teenagers.
Abigail got super excited when she saw all the other trick-or-treaters.
Telling me all about the flowers on my friend’s bush.
Going to visit the Great Pumpkin display that one of my friends puts up every year. Abigail decided that witch Lucy needed a buddy.
Joseph’s landforms project.
My “owchie finger” as Abigail calls it.
The board for November. 🙂
This is one of my favorite outfits that I have for her.
Of course her baby doll had to be included in the picture taking. Abigail even told her doll to say “cheese”. 🙂

Some Spooky Fun

Weekly Happenings: This week started off as any other week but ended on a fun note with the ward trunk-or-treat on Thursday. I thought I had the kids’ costumes all ironed out, but then I went to try to put on Abigail’s Pikachu costume on (which looked like it should still fit), only to find that I couldn’t fasten it around her diaper and it was a good two inches too short (last year it was too big…go figure). So, on the way to the trunk-or-treat, we stopped by Wal-mart and got both her and Joseph new costumes (when Joseph found out Abigail was getting a new costume, he asked for one as well). Abigail was Vampirina (that cute cartoon vampire girl on Disney Channel) and Joseph was Shazam (his favorite superhero who isn’t as well known as the rest, so I was surprised to find a costume for him). We ate chili and macaroni and cheese, played games, and Joseph collected candy (Abigail opted to stay in the cultural hall and dance along to the music the DJ was playing). It was a fun night.

The Weekly Weather: It’s been mild but we did have one cold front move in (which is why we had the trunk-or-treat inside, since the cold front was coming in at the tail end of a thunderstorm) that dropped the temperature a good twenty degrees in two hours. We’re warmer today but are supposed to get another cold front on Halloween (yay!).

What Paul’s Been Up To: Not too much out of the ordinary for him. He’s been busy with work, church stuff, and home stuff.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not too much on my part, either. I did go to book club, which was fun as always. 🙂

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He had fun at school doing some fun activities for science class. They made salt dough and then used it to make landforms…which they then painted. I love that his teacher has them do hands-on activities instead of just learning facts from books.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: The main thing of note for this week is that she has discovered she can reach the light switches in the house, but only to flip on the lights. Once the switch is on, she can’t reach high enough to turn it off, which has led to me constantly discovering random lights on when I know I didn’t turn them on (except in the living room…she can reach that one by standing on the couch, so she likes to flip that one on and off like a strobe light, haha).

This Week in Pictures:

The other Buc-ee’s shirt I found for Abigail when I was on my way up to Waco earlier this month. The front says, “Duck, Duck, Beaver”.
The back has a beaver tail. 😀
October is a lot more fun when you add bat earrings.
A close-up of my Halloween nails. I love the gradual shift from black to red.
She needed her friend to join her for lunch.
After lunch they cozied up to watch a show…
…and then her friend needed to come along to get Joseph from school (luckily Abigail wasn’t upset when Joseph had to put the bear in-between the seats so he could actually sit in his seat).
Painting his salt-dough landforms.
His class also does yoga stretches every morning to get them ready to learn. 🙂
Vampirina
Shazam
Playing Whack-o-lantern.
She loved this game.
She crashed while waiting for Joseph to get out of school and didn’t even wake up when I got her out of her car seat.
My sweet angel baby!

Time’s Just a’Flyin’

Weekly Happenings: This week just flew by! Monday was a holiday, which is probably what made the rest of the week seem like it went by so fast. We didn’t really do too much out of the ordinary. Joseph did participate in his school’s annual fun run (a fundraiser) which he enjoyed doing with his friends. That kid ran over 30 laps (which is why I never do a per lap donation, haha), which equaled out to just over two miles. That’s a lot for little legs! We were also “boo’ed” which means someone left a Halloween bucket full of candy and trinkets as a surprise on our doorstep with instructions for us to continue the fun by “boo-ing” two other people.

The Weekly Weather: A mixed bag, as usual. Some cold weather, some warm weather, and some in-between (not to mention the cold mornings followed by the warm afternoons).

What Paul’s Been Up To: Work, home stuff, church stuff, etc. Our lives are pretty routine right now.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Taxiing kids around, typical home stuff, and typical church stuff. Not too much out of the ordinary for me.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: I already mentioned the fun run. I do feel the need to add that he is extremely patient and sweet with his little sister. He is such a good big brother!

What Abigail’s Been Up To: One of her new things is when she hands something to someone, she’ll say, “Here ya’ go, pal!” Maybe there is such a thing as too much Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, haha. She has also taken to yelling, “No, ma’am!” at me when she doesn’t like me telling her to stop doing something…or even better yet, she’ll put her hand up and yell, “Stooooooooooooooooooooooooop!” (I don’t think I’m exaggerating the number of vowels in that, either…I have a hard time keeping a straight face when she does that, to be honest).

This Week in Pictures:

I went upstairs to fold laundry (I was gone for maybe 15 minutes). I came down and found this. 🙂
A friend of mine passed along some boots for Abigail.
To say she was excited would be an understatement.
If anyone can rock sparkly pink animal print cowboy boots, it’s this girl. 😀
Getting ready for his fun run.
An action shot.
I noticed a couple of slots were accidentally skipped (it’s sometimes hard for the parent volunteers to keep up with the kids) and one was marked twice…so I think he ran either 33 or 34 laps.
I found them these matching shirts when I was on my way up to Waco last week.
I love when my photos app does these then-and-now pictures.
I think I’ll caption this as “Serious Pokemon trainer and his sweet little sidekick”.
These fun glasses were in our “Boo” bucket.
There was a pair for each kid.
