Summer’s Here for Sure!

Weekly Happenings: This past week was another pretty low-key week. I did have my first doctor’s appointment. They were able to do an ultrasound to determine size and what-not. It was so neat watching that little baby wiggle and wriggle around! My due-date is tentatively 1/1/17. Since it’s earlier than I suspected, we’re definitely not going to California for Christmas. We’re going to go this summer, instead. Tomorrow I’m supposed to get a sonogram that will confirm that everything matches up with where I’m supposed to be (and will confirm my due date). The rest of the week was filled with normal stuff (including another book club meeting for me). Today (being Father’s Day), Joseph and I made Paul breakfast in bed and gave him his present (a new part for his computer). I also made him one of his favorite meals for dinner (chopped steak and gravy).

The Weekly Weather: As the title of this post eludes to, while summer doesn’t officially start for a few more days (by the calendar, at least), it’s definitely here in South Texas. It’s been warm and humid. We’ve been staying inside quite a bit. It’s a good thing that Joseph loves to play with his toys!

What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s been working really hard on projects and tests for school. He’s also been keeping busy with work and Scouts.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: I’ve been enjoying the fact that I no longer feel like I have a permantent case of the flu. I guess since I am swiftly approaching the end of my first trimester, it might be better from here on out. Yay!

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He was super excited when we decided that he needed to be moved up from his car seat into a booster seat. Paul and I had noticed that he just looked…huge in his car seat, so we went ahead and got him a booster. He feels like such a big boy, using a “grown-up” seatbelt, and being able to reach more things (mainly his sunglasses which dropped onto the floor). One thing happened that would have been hilarious if he hadn’t been so sad: last night, he apparently had a bad dream that HEB (our local grocery store) had run out of milk. He came downstairs to find me and he was in tears. He asked me in a choked-up voice what would happen if they ran out of milk. After I had comforted him a bit, I assured him that HEB probably wouldn’t ever run out of milk, but if they did, there were planty of other places we could buy milk. Poor kid…what a dream! Once he was safely stowed back in bed, Paul and I had a good (quiet) laugh about it (we certainly couldn’t laugh in front of him…he was seriously upset).

This Week in Pictures:

This is a taste of what this past week gave us. The only thing that’s missing is that the humidity levels aren’t displayed. Our levels have been hovering between 50-70%.

He’s {almost} too cool for his cobbler.

Heading on an adventure.

Here’s our big boy in his new booster seat!
SAMSUNG
In honor of Father’s Day, here’s a throwback to right after Paul got home from Afghanistan. This was two weeks before we left for Texas. That would make Joseph 10 months old in this picture. He still likes to ride on his Daddy’s shoulders!

Also in honor of Father’s Day: one of my favorite pictures of Joseph and my dad. It’s a bit blurry, but I love how they are looking at each other. They were laughing over the contents of “Green Eggs and Ham”. Joseph sure loves his grandpa!

Yay for Sunshine!

Weekly Happenings: This past week was pretty normal. We ran some errands, played outside (yay!), and hung around the house. We didn’t really go anywhere or do anything out of the ordinary. Normally that might be considered a bad thing, but we don’t mind it too much. 🙂

The Weekly Weather: As eluded to by the title, the sun has finally shown itself. It’s been nice to have a break from the rain. I think we’re supposed to have a few storms this week, but it’s not supposed to be all day, every day like it has been. Also, while it has started to warm up, it’s nowhere near as warm as it was last year at this time. It’s been rather pleasant, actually.

What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s been kept busy with work and school as usual, but he also took care of an issue with our air conditioner. On occasion, air conditioners can develop clogs in their lines (mostly made up of mildew and other yuckiness). When this happens, there is an overflow pipe that starts to drip (ours is out on our back patio). I noticed this happening a few days back, so I let Paul know. When he got home from work, he flushed the line with vinegar and boiling water (using an air mattress pump to push it through). This cleared things right up. I’m so grateful for such a handy husband!

What Sarah’s Been Up To: I’ve been feeling quite a bit better as far as the nausea goes, but I’ve still been pretty tired. I’ve found that little cat naps have almost become a necessity. I did finally have enough energy to clean a little bit, so the other day I cleaned the kitchen, half bath, vacuumed, swept, and mopped. I also attended a book club meeting one night, which was fun as usual.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s been his typical happy-go-lucky self. Pretending to be different people, building stuff with LEGOs, making up his own games when playing, etc.

Oh! How I’ve missed the beautiful blue Texas skies!
IMG_20160607_082829
He came into my room and told me that his bow and arrow were full of potential energy. The farther back he pulled the string, the more potential energy. O.o I vaguely remember an episode of Blaze and the Monster Machines that may have mentioned the phrase…he then told me there was a giant spider right by me and proceeded to take aim…I told him it jumped onto the elliptical (no way was I going to let him shoot an arrow, even a suction cup-tipped one, anywhere near my face). 😏

The king must be armed for battle at all times (yes, that is a foam ninja sword stuffed down the back of his shirt).

Playing his made-up game. He threw a ball out far and then tried to hit the ball with the frisbee.

Doing another thing he loves: drawing.

I can hardly believe how much the basil plant my friend gave me has grown! Also pictured: the mint, which makes our front patio smell really good, and Joseph’s ever-growing rock and stick collection.
IMG_20160609_091059
Our tomatoes are loving this cooler than average weather. I had already picked the majority of the ripe ones before taking this picture, but there are a ton of green ones still on there.
IMG_20160609_091317
I was excited to see wildflowers blooming in the tree beds in the back yard. Paul just planted the seeds a few months back.
IMG_20160609_091258
We’ve got some more blossoms on the blackberry plants. The last ones got attacked by bugs before they even fully formed into berries. I’m hoping these will make it! You can also see some of the wildflowers that Paul planted in the garden bed around then raised beds.
IMG_20160609_091126
Strawberries! I think it’s interesting how the original plant put out a shoot. I don’t think I knew they did that.
IMG_20160611_103033
I waited a few more days after the last picture was taken and then went back out and picked the two ripe strawberries. Since it’s technically Joseph’s strawberry plant, we were more than happy to let him enjoy the berries (though I did sneak a taste…they were so good!). You can also see all the tomatoes we’ve picked over the last week or so.

The Same Old Song

Weekly Happenings: I feel like I’ve been typing the same introductory sentence for a few weeks now, but this past week was another rather laid back one. Monday was Memorial Day, which we spent hanging around the house. Paul had homework to do, as well as the task of taking our dryer apart in order to pull out the faulty part that was making it not stay on. He ordered a new part (since Lowe’s didn’t have them and the parts store was closed due to the holiday). He was able to bypass it temporarily so that we can use the dryer until he gets the chance to take the thing all apart again to replace the part (which I’m sure he’s looking forward to like a kid looks forward to Christmas…). The rest of the week was pretty similar. Crazy storms during the night tired us out and crazy storms during the day kind of kept us home-bound (I didn’t want to risk driving in it in case there was flooding). Paul did go on a quick overnight camp out with the Scouts on Friday night. He took our van and slept in the back (which was a good thing, since it did rain overnight on them).

The Weekly Weather: Rain, rain, go away, come again…oh, I don’t know…next month, maybe?! We have had so much rain recently! I wouldn’t mind it as much if it didn’t almost always come with crazy thunder and lightning as companions. I really mean it when I say crazy, too. I’ve heard of three different instances of lightning hitting homes in the past two weeks alone (one of which was one of my friend’s home). The reservoir near our home is now officially at capacity. It’s been an adventure to say the least!

What Paul’s Been Up To: School, work, Scouts, and fixing stuff around the house. I still feel the need to express my gratitude for how much he’s taken on with Joseph and the house while I haven’t been feeling well during the first part of this pregnancy. Joseph’s been loving the extra Daddy-time. 🙂

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Other than going out to meet up with friends for Sonic shakes one night, not too much, really. Truth be told, I spend a lot of my time laying on the couch, right now, just trying to not let the nausea and fatigue take over. It may be my imagination, but I think in the last couple of days, I’ve felt it subside just a little. Fingers crossed that since it started so early, it will be over soon (unless I just jinxed myself, haha)!

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s been spending a lot of time playing inside (due to the weather). I would love to take him out to play in the rain (especially since it’s almost always a warm rain during this time of year). I think he would really love it, but with the lightning always so close (there were quite a few times it was so close it shook the windows), it’s really not a good idea…so we just watch from inside. 😉

This Week in Pictures:

IMG_20160529_142027
Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to see my friend Lisa, whom I hadn’t seen since we were teenagers. She and her family recently moved to Lubbock and they happened to come down to San Antonio for the weekend. 🙂
IMG_20160530_194428
When it’s almost 8:00 and it’s still 85 degrees…everyone gets a shake from Whataburger. Paul was home doing homework, so we brought one home for him.
IMG_20160530_161947
He was being a turtle in its shell. 🙂
IMG_20160531_082709
I came downstairs to find him very seriously mixing up a batch of “yucky mud”. Luckily, it was pretend mud!
IMG_20160601_105608
With one of his LEGO “creations”. It was a “LEGO guy launcher”. If you look closely, you might be able to see the LEGO guy on the top, in the act of being “launched”.

This. This is why he has a daddy.

Seeing just how tall of a tower he could build.
IMG_20160602_105041
He was getting upset every time his wobbly tower would fall over, so we had a lesson on how larger bases make for stronger, less wobbly towers.
IMG_20160601_204253
Our nighttime story time has become him reading to us (he almost always insists upon it). This is one of his favorites (he was reading to Paul in this instance). He also read “Fox in Socks” to me this past week.

Paul’s foil dinner for the camp out on Friday. Everyone was responsible for bringing their own food for the fire, so Paul did his normal foil dinner.
