Another Fun Week

Weekly Happenings: This past week was rather enjoyable. On Tuesday, we attended the National Night Out celebration at our neighborhood park. Joseph loved the bounce houses, Abigail liked looking at the petting zoo animals, and we all liked getting in touch with our neighbors and friends. Then on Wednesday, I got to go to a fun Relief Society activity. Aside from that, we filled the rest of our time with regular weekly things and some family time as well.

The Weekly Weather: It’s been another week full of sunshine, rain, and rainbows.

What Paul’s Been Up To: Mainly just work and his church calling. He has been spending some time working on a little free library that will be installed at the neighborhood park and will be stocked with books for people to borrow.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not too much out of the ordinary on my front. I did get to be the “brave” person to kill a scorpion at the Relief Society Activity (it showed up as we were cleaning things up at the end of the night). I just stepped straight down on it, since I was wearing my boots. It was probably a quick and relatively painless death for it.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He enjoyed attending his first meeting with GT (gifted and talented). He said his favorite part was getting to pretend to be astronauts in training. Since this year celebrates the 60th anniversary for NASA, they are focusing on space, which I think is so cool.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s been fighting off a cold, but luckily she seems to be on the flip-side of it now.

This Week in Pictures:

She really, really wanted to touch the lights. We would tell her no, but then she decided to take toys and try to touch them that way. We ended up taking them down since they were too much of a temptation.
It’s blurry because she’s constantly on the move, but I love how she managed to get all of the Halloween buckets at once.
All ready to take Joseph to school on Monday.
Saying, “hi!”
Joseph probably spent 90% of the time at National Night Out in these bounce houses.
It looks like she’s growling, but she’s just in the middle of saying “hi”.
She really liked the alpacas.
A pretty rainbow that appeared after the bit of rain right at the end of National Night Out.
At the activity for Relief Society, part of the time was spent doing a favorite things exchange (you bring three identical things and go home with three different things). One of the things I came home with was this letter board. This is going to be fun to have around!
We hung up the sign in the dining room.
Getting introduced to It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
Life is always more…adventurous when you have a bucket on your head.
He said that I needed to take their picture because they were cute. Well, he isn’t wrong…

We’re Getting to My Favorite Time of Year

Weekly Happenings: It’s crazy to think that September is almost over! I am excited, though, because that means that we’re getting into the holiday season, which is my favorite time of year. This past week was a pretty average one. We didn’t really go anywhere or do anything out of the norm. I’m okay with that…before I know it, we’ll be in the full-fledged craziness that is Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

The Weekly Weather: It’s been a mix of rainy and sunny, with a dash of butterflies. The snout nose butterfly (it looks like a smaller version of a Monarch) migrates right through San Antonio, so there were several days where there were butterflies everywhere!

What Paul’s Been Up To: Mainly just work and home life. He did help out with the youth service project for church (he’s the secretary in the Young Men’s presidency).

What Sarah’s Been Up To: I have mainly just been doing my thing, too. I did watch a friend’s girls one evening, which was a lot of fun for Abigail.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: We just found out that he’s going to be put into the Gifted and Talented program at school (they meet once a week). We’re all excited for him to be able to get a little more enrichment at school.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s been full of sass, but also full of fun, giggles, new words, and cuddles.

This Week in Pictures:

She really loves this beaver (it’s the mascot for this huge and awesome gas station called Buc-ee’s, haha).
This is how we prefer to settle sibling disputes. 😉
She loves her “puppy”, which is a backpack leash.
Play date fun.
This is his “work face”. 😉 I sure love this man and am so grateful for all the hard work he does to make life better for our family!
Looking at a book or two while occasionally watching a show.
I love how cute she looks in this little denim skirt.
There were a couple days this past week that were just barely cool enough to get away with wearing sweaters.
Homemade pizza for the win! I love being able to make dough with my mixer!
I decided to take some time today to put up the Halloween decorations. Paul helped me out by putting up the spiderwebs on the bookcase.
Just a couple tweaks and the fall decor is transformed to Halloween. 🙂

Howdy, Fall!

Weekly Happenings: Today’s the first day of fall! I love this time of year! Other than that, it was another average week for the books. We did take advantage of today’s cooler temps and went to the zoo today, which was a fun family outing.

The Weekly Weather: We have had so much rain this past week (all of September, really). A few days ago the news reports were saying that San Antonio has gotten fifteen inches in just September. That number is sure to go up, though, since we just had a huge storm come through last night. It’s been a bit cooler (mid-80s) but today has been really pleasant (low- to mid-70s).

What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s been busy with work and trying to squeeze in yard work between storms (we don’t want the grass to get too high because, well…critters like tall grass). He also has done some stuff for his calling at church (secretary in the young men’s presidency). We also celebrated his birthday this past Monday. 🙂

What Sarah’s Been Up To: I’ve been mostly trying to keep the kids from going stir crazy, haha. I did get to go to my monthly book club meeting which was super fun.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s been having a good time in first grade. He loves doing what they call “specials”, which are P.E., art, music, and computer lab. I love that he’s getting exposed to those things each week. 🙂

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s displayed just how smart she’s getting. One day, I ran upstairs to grab something, leaving her downstairs. About a minute later, I thought I heard her on the stairs. I ran out of my room in time to see her get to the top of the stairs, so I quickly let her into the loft. At first I thought I just hadn’t gotten the downstairs gate latched (even though I swore I had). I texted Paul about it and he suggested I put a D clip/caribiner clip on there just in case. I still wasn’t sure if it was a fluke, so as a test, I left the clip off at a point where I could watch her. Joseph went upstairs, latching the gate behind him. She was there in half a minute and I watched her use both thumbs to pop the latch up. Yup. That D clip went right back on, much to her consternation (and another one went on the upstairs gate).

This Week in Pictures:

She kept bringing me clothing items to put on.
One of my sister-in-laws sent us some Minnie Mouses that she procured at a yard sale. It’s safe to say that Abigail was pretty happy.
I love watching these two play together.
This is the “lock” to keep Abigail from getting onto the stairs.
They were snugglin’ up, watching a show.
She was so excited for me to put these goggles on her.
Pre-bedtime antics: showing off their slippers (Joseph’s are from last winter and Abigail’s once belonged to Joseph)…
…having a dance party…
…and even a little dress-up time.
Slightly cooler weather (not to mention all the rain) made me want some comfort food. Last night I made corn and cheese chowder with skillet cornbread on the side.
The boys walking along at the zoo. Last night’s storm probably discouraged the normal crowds that would have been there on a Saturday.
Checking out fish and some turtles.
She was more interested in trying to escape than she was in having her picture taken, haha. At least she smiled!
Real life trying to get kids to pose for pictures, people…thank goodness for digital photos!
Chillin’ with the lions.
The kids both liked how close they were to the glass.
On our way back to the car, we noticed that the San Antonio river was higher than we ever remember seeing it.
Normally that area between the two bridges is a walkway between them, but today water was running freely over it.
The water coming out from under the bridges was pretty impressive, too.
