Valentine’s Day Fun

Weekly Happenings: This past week was rather uneventful with the exception of Friday, which was Valentine’s Day. Friday was full of fun for Joseph at school and then after Paul got home from work, we exchanged gifts and then went out to eat. It was a nice time, for sure!

The Weekly Weather: It’s been typical February weather: a humid cold that just seems to suck the warmth from your very bones, haha. I think that’s why it’s my least favorite month, weather-wise.

What Paul’s Been Up To: He’s been taking it easy, resting his finger as much as he can. He should be able to get the stitches out in a couple of days.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not too much out of the ordinary on my part.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He enjoyed Valentine’s Day at school and has also enjoyed utilizing a little “book nook” I set up in his room that has pillows to make it nice and cozy. He’ll sit there and read for quite a bit.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She’s been saying some pretty funny things. Just one example: she came up and told me that her teeth were stuck and that she needed to go to the doctor so that they could take them out.

This Week in Pictures:

I made my nails pretty for Valentine’s Day.
She asked for juice and snuggled right into the newly-vacant spot that was created as I was starting to get up to get some for her. When I got back, she told me “no thank you” when I offered her the juice. I think she discovered a way to procure a pre-warmed seat on a chilly day and that I got played, haha.
Paul’s wood chipper came in a huge box.
The kids enjoyed making it into a playhouse…
…and a rocket ship.
When I realized just how grimy my piano keys have gotten (10 extra sets of hands playing the piano every week tends to do that), I went to town and cleaned them really well. It looks like a whole new piano!
I want to be on whatever team she’s on…I would be kind of scared to go up against her, to be honest, haha.
Abigail watching one of her favorite shows.
It’s a reboot of one of my favorite shows when I was little. Luckily, the humor is still as age-appropriate and fun (sometimes that doesn’t happen with reboots).
Playing with her Little People house and school.
Unwrapping her present from Paul. He got her a little box with a balloon, tiny teddy bear, and some candy. He got me one as well (they were a fundraiser for a group at his work). Abigail has since absconded with both balloons. 🙂
Paul got me pearl earrings to match the necklace I got from my mom quite a few years ago. She bought it, wore it for a little while, and then set it aside to give to me. She said that she did that so that I would have a piece of jewelry that she had worn. I love my momma!
Paul also brought home flowers and chocolate. I have now discovered that 86% cacao is a bit too bitter for plain eating (at least to my taste buds), so I popped it into the pantry for when I need bittersweet chocolate for baking. He also brought home some 70% which was perfect. 🙂
Paul even brought home flowers for Abigail (another fundraiser at work). Before you think the boys got left out, they didn’t. Paul brought Joseph some Kit Kats and purchased a digital copy of an inexpensive Switch game. I got Paul a monocular which is kind of like binoculars but is only one lens. He can even attach it to his phone and take pictures (which will reflect the magnification).
She told me her jammies and slippers were “so sparkly and beautiful.” 😍
All ready for church!
Oh, how I love these two!
She wanted one more picture. She’s saying “cheese” but has her mouth full of pancake. 😂
I had to get a close-up of her shoes because I think they’re so stinkin’ cute!

The Joys of Winter (Tummy Bugs and Cold Weather)

Weekly Happenings: This week was another chill week. I thought that Abigail had kicked whatever bug she had, but on Monday night she popped another fever, this one higher than the ones she had last week. I took her into the doctor to run a strep test and check her ears, because I felt that the fever had come out of nowhere. The strep test came back negative and her ears looked fine. The doctor said that with her one remaining symptom that we talked about, she probably had a stomach bug and a cold at the same time. She was fever-free the next day and symptom-free the day after that. So, that was how we spent the first part of the week. The rest of the week was kind of recovery from the first part, haha.

The Weekly Weather:

We started out warm, but then a cold front moved through.

Much to Joseph’s disappointment, it didn’t actually snow. We just got ice pellets.
The day after that, it was bitterly cold in the morning.
I sort of felt like this owl.

What Paul’s Been Up To: His week was going well until this morning. He pruned the trees in the backyard and was cutting the branches into smaller chunks (he ordered a mini wood chipper that will make it easy for him to mulch the branches so that we don’t have to haul them off somewhere or try to get our trash company to haul them off since they’ll want to charge us extra, but it hasn’t come in yet). The chainsaw kicked back and he sliced his finger pretty bad. I dropped him off at Urgent Care. He’s probably going to need to get some stitches. Poor guy!

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Mostly my normal stuff. Nothing too out of the ordinary on my part.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He had his 100th day of school this week and got to do some fun activities for that. He also loved getting to learn about solids, liquids, and gasses in science by having root beer floats. Oh, and in GT, he learned about crime scene investigation where they learned about fingerprinting and collecting DNA (they even got to practice collecting their own DNA which was fun).

What Abigail’s Been Up To: I’m relieved that she’s finally feeling better. There was a while where she didn’t want to eat anything, barely wanted to drink anything, and was downright cranky. Now that she’s back to her happy and sweet self, it’s a much better vibe around the house.

This Week in Pictures:

Oh, did I mention that our gas prices are amazing right now? This was at the beginning of the week. When I was driving by the gas station this morning, I noticed that it had dropped even more and was $1.89. It’s crazy, but I’m so grateful for it!
For his 100th Day of School shirt, he wanted Paul to make him another 100 different Pokémon shirt.
Paul found an image online that had 100 different Pokémon and printed it onto an iron-on transfer. Then he ironed it onto a white shirt.
Abigail wanted to be in on the picture taking.
She wanted to do super hero poses, though.
When chilly weather traps you inside, you have no choice but to get cozy and read some books.
Playing dress up is another fun option.
One of my favorite sights when I come down the stairs. I love our home (and that little girl, too)!
Snuggling with brother.
The result of that stinkin’ chainsaw.

Weekly Happenings: This past week was pretty much spent at home. Abigail was fighting a cold so we pretty much just hung around the house. We did have friends over last night for dinner and game playing, which was fun.

The Weekly Weather: It’s been typical for this time of year: some warm days, some cold days…this is the time of year that I’m especially grateful that Paul upgraded our thermostat. We’ve got one that will either pop on the heat if it gets below a certain temperature or pop on the AC if it gets above a certain temperature. There have been days where we’ve used both the AC and the heat. Crazy Texas!

What Paul’s Been Up To: There hasn’t been too much out of the ordinary for him. Work and his calling at church keep him pretty busy.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Extra snuggles for the most part. The only time Abigail really wants to snuggle is when she’s hurt, sad, or sick. I did take some time to put out my Valentine’s Day decor since today is the first day of February.

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He’s back into the swing of things at school. His 100th day of school is approaching this next week. It’s hard to believe that in four months it’ll be summer break again. The years seem to fly by faster and faster.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: Even though she’s been sick (thankfully she’s better now), she hasn’t slowed down much. She loves playing in the loft, and it’s fun to hear her as she plays because her imaginative play is exploding right now.

This is how Abigail spent a lot of the first part of the week.
I love getting to update my word board for each upcoming month.
I also love how quick it is to switch out decorations on my piano.
I added hearts under the shelf by the powder room.
I don’t remember just how long ago I made this, but I still love the look (and the fact that I managed to put it together with supplies I already had laying around the house.
My friend brought her boys for their piano lessons a couple of days ago. Abigail was downstairs and convinced my friend to help her bundle up with all the cold weather gear. I thought this particular wrap up was rather ingenious.
Paul spent a good chunk of the day pruning the live oak tree in our front yard.
He also took the plants out of the planter box, put them in pots (and repotted a couple of the other plants that were already in pots but needed different sized pots), tore out the planter box (the wood was starting to rot on the bottom…he said it seemed like it was almost soil-like), and did this stone planter. We’re going to leave the plants in the pots as part of the design.
