Just Pluggin’ Along

Weekly Happenings: This past week was another entry in the “just pluggin’ along” books. We didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, didn’t go anywhere out of the ordinary, and just sort of hung around the house. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, though. I think weeks like these are good because they make the “fun weeks” even more fun. Plus, they’re good for this slightly-introverted momma who needs time to decompress on a regular basis.

The Weekly Weather: It was pretty average, too. I don’t think we even got any rain, so it was typical spring weather: warm and sunny.

What Paul’s Been Up To: Mainly just school and work. He did spend some time yesterday trying to figure out why the water pressure in the house is so low at times. He thinks there might be a problem with the pressure regulating valve, but he needs to do a bit more research. The fun of home ownership!

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Not too much out of the ordinary for me, either. Mainly just keeping the kids happy and healthy. Like I said…we’re just pluggin’ along. πŸ™‚ I did take the kids to the park one day, which they seemed to like (Joseph liked getting to play and Abigail liked sitting in the shade, checking out the trees).

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He had a good week at school, and also didn’t seem to mind our week at home. He’s rather social, but luckily he gets to socialize at school, so when he gets home, he’s good to have some down time. He did get pretty excited yesterday when he discovered a male cardinal hanging out in our back yard. We got home from running a short errand and he saw a flash of bright red in one of our trees. He asked what it was, and I wasn’t sure, at first. Then it hopped onto an outside branch and I got a good look at its profile. I was rather surprised, because I didn’t think they ever made it this far south (I suppose I consider them an “East Coast bird”), but I guess they do!

What Abigail’s Been Up To: Her major development this week is that she has learned to roll from her back to her belly. She’s also learned to move her body around more in general when laying on her activity mat. The combination of these two developments results in her not always being exactly where I originally put her when I first put her down. It’s a good reminder that it won’t be too long before she’s mobile.

This Week in Pictures:

I think it’s pretty cute when she uses her bib as a comfort item when she naps.
Though, it’s also pretty cute when she uses her onesie for the same purpose.
Someone has discovered that belly-sleeping is pretty comfy.
Joseph was pretty excited to see that the giant cement spheres in front of Target were decorated like Mario and Luigi from Super Mario Brothers. He wanted me to take his picture with Mario. I love how he chose to pose! πŸ™‚

Where is the Year Going?

Weekly Happenings: It’s hard to believe that tomorrow will herald in the month of May. The year is almost halfway over…where is it going?! This past week was a little out of the norm for us in that on Monday night we went and purchased a used car (a 2016 Mazda 3) to replace the Honda. Also, San Antonio celebrated Fiesta (a huge multi-day party that includes the Battle of the Flowers parade, which is a parade that honorsΒ the heroes of the battles of San Jacinto and the Alamo). Here’s a link that explains a bit about the history of Fiesta. We pretty much avoid downtown during Fiesta-time (it seems like a lot of people use it as an excuse to party hard and it’s just crazy-crowded) but Joseph still got to have a Fiesta party at school, which he enjoyed. This past week also contained Abigail’s four month check-up, which is yet another contributing factor to me wondering where the time is going.

The Weekly Weather: Typical spring weather: warm and sunny…though we did have a thunderstorm come through last night which brought with it thunder, lightning, rain, wind, and a bit of hail. Miraculously, both kids slept through it.

What Paul’s Been Up To: Work and school, mainly. He did a great job having a firm hand with the car salesman when we were at the dealership so that we didn’t pay sticker price for our new car. He’s enjoying the perks of driving a way newer car (we’re talking a difference of 13 years between the Honda and this Mazda). He also worked on preparing a talk for church today, as well as a lesson for Elders’ Quorum. He’ll have a busy day at church today, for sure.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: Mainly a rinse and repeat of last week: keeping the smalls happy and healthy. I did my best to entertain the kids at the dealership since it can be a rather lengthy process (Paul had done as much as he could ahead of time, like pre-approval of a loan and what-not, but it still took several hours).

What Joseph’s Been Up To: He had a shortened school week (Friday was a holiday due to Fiesta and the Battle of the Flowers) that included a Fiesta party with his class on Thursday. One funny thing he did was make what he called a maraca (he had made some maracas at school, so maracas were on his brain) out of an Easter egg with a rather unusual filling: LEGO heads, haha. I love his ingenuity. πŸ˜‰ He also loved getting to call my mom and sing her “Happy Birthday”. My mom liked it, too. πŸ™‚

What Abigail’s Been Up To: I just switched out her clothes to the next size up, so she’s now in 6-9/9 month clothes. This came after taking her for her check-up and finding out she is now 16 pounds, 14 ounces and 24 and 3/4 inches long. No wonder her clothes were getting snug! I was a bit worried because she was tugging at one of her ears quite a bit, but the doctor said that it was not infected. She said that it was most likely due to early teething pain (which makes sense when I consider how much Abigail’s been drooling) which radiates up to the ears from the gums. Luckily, she hasn’t been out-of-control fussy so far, since we still probably have quite some time to go before the tooth (or teeth…if she’s like Joseph, she’ll pop out the first two simultaneously) makes an appearance. She also had her first experience with baby oatmeal. She seems to enjoy it (at least what makes it into her mouth), but gets frustrated after a bit and wants a bottle to fill her belly faster. I’m not surprised with this outcome, so we’re taking it slowly and letting her set the pace.

This Week in Pictures:

Checking out the other “baby”.
It’s hard to believe this bright-eyed baby is four months old!
Joseph was convinced that this was the perfect hat for Abigail…
Showing off his Fiesta “vest”, necklace (green, his favorite color), and maracas (made from Easter eggs filled with dried beans, held together by plastic spoons and tape).
I sure love these two!

Bonus Video: Abigail having cereal for the first time…messy and entertaining for all, haha.

Another Almost Picture-less Post

Weekly Happenings: This past week was pretty average. We didn’t really go anywhere or do anything too out of the ordinary…I think there was a trip to the library and a family outing to Wal-Mart, but that’s about it. Real party-animals, huh? πŸ˜‰ Truth be told, we all kind of like hanging around home. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we can do so in pajamas/”comfy” clothes… πŸ˜€

The Weekly Weather: It was typical-for-Texas April weather: mostly sunny and warm days with one cool and cloudy day mixed in. I think there was one day where it rained overnight, but I don’t remember for sure…it must not have been too huge of a storm. πŸ˜‰

What Paul’s Been Up To: He started back with his classes for BYU-I: Object Oriented Programming (Java) and Global Hotspot Pakistan. He’s still driving the rental car, though we just got word that the insurance company is going to total the Honda and give us a check for what they’ve valued it at (which we’ll use as a down payment for a replacement car). He’s started researching replacement cars already and has a pretty good plan in place so that the car shopping process will be as seamless as possible.

What Sarah’s Been Up To: For me, it’s basically been another week of keeping the littles happy and healthy. πŸ˜€

What Joseph’s Been Up To: The main fun thing that happened for him this past week was that he got to do Field Day at school. He loved getting to do all the different activities and had a great time with all his friends.

What Abigail’s Been Up To: She has officially hit the four month mark (I’ll have her updated stats next week since her appointment is tomorrow) and has discovered shrieking. o.O Joseph loves mimicking any sounds she makes, so it’s been pretty crazy in the house and car as of late. πŸ˜‰

This Week in Pictures: As the title eludes to, this is almost a picture-less post. It’s not that they didn’t do anything picture-worthy…it’s more that I don’t think to pull out my phone to snap a shot as often.

He loves to hang out with her, wherever she may be. You can sort of see the remnants of a Poke ball that he had painted on his cheek as part of the festivities of Field Day. πŸ™‚
I put her into the “buzzy chair” (as Joseph calls it) and then took a small load of laundry upstairs to fold. I could hear her shrieking (happily) and then a minute or so later, silence. I came down to check on her and found this. I wish I could fall asleep this quickly!

Bonus Video: Paul attached the mobile to the swing and Abigail really likes to look at it. When she first noticed it, she was shrieking and smiling at the bears. Of course, as soon as Paul hit record, she stopped. Such is the life with babies. πŸ˜‰
